Adding Name Gen Files

Some quick steps for adding my name generator files to your copy of Scrivener.  Please consult the Scrivener manual for more detailed instructions.

Scrivener for Windows

  1. Download the desired file by right clicking on the link and choosing “Save Link As…”  Make sure you remember where you’ve saved the file.
  2. Open Scrivener for Windows.
  3. In the menu bar click Tools, Writing Tools, Name Generator.
  4. Within the Name Generator click the Import tab.  Please note there are separate dialog boxes for first and last names.
  5. Click “Browse…” next to the appropriate dialog box, and browse to the folder where you saved the file.
  6. Select the file.
  7. Click “Open”.
  8. Once back in the Import tab, click “Import File”.  The import file may take seconds to minutes depending on the file size.

Scrivener for Macintosh

I’ve been informed the files on my download page may only be compatible with Scrivener for Windows.  I do not have a Mac, and thus I do not have Scrivener for Mac to verify either those files or these instructions.

  1. Download the desired file by control-clicking on the link and choosing “Download the Linked File”  Make sure you remember where you’ve saved the file.
  2. Open Scrivener for Macintosh.
  3. In the menu bar click Edit, Writing Tools, Name Generator.
  4. Within the Name Generator click the gear to expand for more options, if necessary.
  5. Click the plus sign button at the bottom right of the options.
  6. Browse to the location of the file.
  7. Select the file.
  8. Click “Open”.

Please note, I personally use Scrivener for Windows, so can only vouch for the veracity of those instructions.
